FAQs

When will trek be held?

Trek will be held Wednesday 2nd October through Saturday 5th October 2024.

Where is trek being held?

Trek will be held at the Avon Valley National Park. The trails and campsites will be similar (but slightly different) to those used on the 2022 Trek.

Who can participate in trek?

All youth living in stake boundaries turning 14 through 18 in 2024. An invitation has also been extended to youth from the Perth mission to attend.

How much does trek cost?

The cost for each youth is $50 with a $50 co-contribution from their ward.

How we will get to and from the trek location?

Youth will be required to organise their own transport to and from Avon Valley National Park. It is recommended that wards and families organise car pooling.

How far will we be walking each day?

Trek participants will be walking and pulling handcarts for up to 13km per day.

What medical provisions are going to be provided?

There will be a proficient medical team on trek who will be dedicated to medical surveillance and treatment while on the trails and also in camp.

What will be in the handcarts?

Youth will carry their 20 litre buckets, water and some food in the handcart. Tents and bedding will be transported separately.

Will there be bathroom facilities?

Bathrooms will be provided at the campsites and at rest points along the trek. Feminine hygiene facilities will be provided.

There will be no shower facilities.

What are the sleeping accommodations?

Each trek family will set up a tent for sleeping, girls separate from the boys. Ma's and Pa's and leaders will be separate from the youth.

We will be camping at a different location each night.

Will there be plenty of water?

Each handcart will have a 20L water cooler provided for each trek family and there will be an ability to top it up throughout the day at rest stops.

Why are electronic devices not allowed?

This is a rare opportunity to get out of the world and worldly influences and allows for better opportunities to feel the spirit in our lives. We invite all youth to make the sacrifice of going without their phone/electronic device for a few days. There is limited phone reception in the national park.

Leaders will have a sat phone that can be reached in an emergency.

What will we be doing other than trekking?

Pioneer Story Telling

Devotionals

Testimony Meeting

Family and group activities

Pioneer games and dance

How will youth be divided into families while on Trek?

Stake and ward young women/men leaders will prayerfully assign youth to families ensuring that families have a range of ages, gender and physical capability.

Youth will meet their Ma and Pa when they arrive to trek on 2nd October.
